Overseas success

Overseas successThe leader in personnel safety solutions for the mining, construction and earthmoving sectors in Australia, QMW Industries, has successfully expanded its global footprint.

QMW recently finalised its project with Inner Mongolia based-North Hauler Joint Stock (NHL), and the team are eager to be collaborating with a number of other overseas clients.

Engineering Department manager at QMW Industries Joel Hansell says expanding the company’s client base overseas is integral to the future growth of QMW.

Hansell recently travelled to Inner Mongolia to assess NHL’s manufacturing facilities and quantify the requirements needed to achieve certification to produce roll over and falling object protection structures (ROPS/FOPS) for its Terex TR100 dump trucks.

As the global leaders in ROPS and FOPS industry, the safety solutions offered by QMW are of great assistance to its offshore clients.

“We feel we have something to offer the greater community to improve personnel safety and performance through innovative designs and solutions,” Hansell says.

“The very nature of our what we do focuses on people, and that preservation is at the core of our business, so it’s an organic progression for our team.”

Meanwhile, Leighton Contractors in Indonesia approached QMW in late 2011, to develop a frontal impact protection structure (FIPS) for its Komatsu HD785 to provide a safeguard against potential fatalities and injuries onsite.

Assistance from QMW’s manufacturing partner in Indonesia, PT Sanggar Sarana Baja (PTSSB), enabled staff to visit the Leighton site to measure vehicles and design the FIPS.

PTSSB sales manager Graham Baber says, the manufacturing and licensing agreement it signed with QMW has allowed the company to develop new products and services as required.

“Based on research and development QMW has done, we’ve been able to introduce these products and services to Indonesia,” he says.

In addition, local workshop staff at Leighton Contractors were also given training on how to fit the supplied 30 units of FIPS to its existing fleet.

“Australia is rich with intellectual property through the ongoing drive for improved safety and risk mitigation,” Hansell says.

“We believe it’s imperative to our growth that we offer engineering services and expertise not just nationally, but internationally.”

QMW’s overseas OEM client base also include Wirtgen (Germany), CATERPILLAR (US), XEMC/Rio Tinto (China) and Terex (Scotland), to name a few.

QMW Industries has been the resource specialist for over 25-years, providing safety products and services to mines throughout the world.
