QMW Industries partnered with long-standing client South32 GEMCO to engineer, build and install a purpose-built, hydraulically-driven lubrication truck for Groote Eylandt, delivering 12 specified products through 15 retractable hose reels, all built to the site's Fatal Risk Control requirements.

Why a Cat 745C

The Cat 745C six-wheel-drive articulated dump truck was chosen for the terrain at Groote Eylandt. QMW took load-sense hydraulics off the truck's hoist circuit to drive motor/pump combinations, with product delivery run through electro-hydraulic controls via an IFM controller and PVG valve. The control software handles hydraulic power, flow metering, pump operation, reel retraction and level indication through pressure transducers and a PLC.

A remote-control system lets an operator retract individual reels while still pumping other products, so crews can guide hoses into place faster and with less effort.

What it carries

The build prioritised fuel economy, capacity, reliable delivery, usability and simplicity, and was completed in four months. It carries 22,000 litres of diesel, delivered through fixed-displacement hydraulic motors coupled to Ebsray V25 pumps and metered by LC7 meters, with filtration before and after to keep the fuel clean.

Beyond fuel: remote high-volume grease via Lincoln Powermaster pumps, high-pressure grease with swivel guns, a 90 CFM hydraulically-driven screw compressor running a reversible pneumatic waste-oil pump, a 120 psi air reel, fast-fill shut-offs, Cobra hydraulic rewind reels and Piusi transfer guns.

The South32 Cat 745C service module, with each product bay labelled: waste oil, gear oils, engine oils and water Every product bay labelled and reeled: 12 products through 15 retractable hose reels.

Built to travel, built to last

The modular superstructure can be containerised for shipping and remote installation anywhere. Tanks are high-tensile Australian steel, with Grade 316 stainless for the water and coolant tanks to rule out corrosion. Every weld is non-destructively tested: Magnetic Particle Inspection to AS 1554.1 SP, with die-penetrant testing and hydrostatic verification on the stainless tanks.
